Using the Storage Resource Broker Portlet

The Storage Resource Broker (SRB) portlet is a system of services that integrate diverse storage resources (e.g. databases, workstations, archival and NFS systems) behind a virtualized interface. Portals that interface to data collections via services such as SRB have the potential to reduce the complexities associated with data investigations and hence increase productivity, information distribution and collaboration.

Usage Instructions

  1. SRB Portlet Security

GridPort maps portal user accounts to their grid credentials by using the Open Grid Computing Environments (OGCE) proxy credential management service, which retrieves proxy credentials from a MyProxy service. The internal service then makes that credential available to all portlets.

Therefore, ensure that GSI credentials are first retrieved using the Proxy Management Portlet.

  2. SRB Preferences

On the first visit to the SRB portlet, you would be prompted to enter details regarding your SRB Account. These details correspond to the ones given during SRB account creation. The underlying table is just an example of SRB preferences and the values at your end may differ.

  3. Portlet Status

Currently, the SDSU SRB portlets allow users to perform the following SRB S* commands and functions:

    • Collection browsing (list, change directory)
    • File manipulation (rename, delete, copy)
    • Directory manipulation (change directory, create new dir, remove directory)
    • File download from SRB server to localhost
    • File upload from localhost to SRB server
